Apple’s new labs are located at CETYS, the University of Tijuana, and the Autonomous University of Chiapas.
Apple today announced the first expansion of the company’s Racial Equity and Justice Initiative (REJI) into Latin America.
With the opening of two new iOS Development Labs at CETYS University of Tijuana and the Autonomous University of Chiapas.
These funds will help educational institutions, so that -from their foundation- they serve more students and create more job opportunities in the communities of the border states.
“We are delighted to expand our
REJI initiative to Mexico, building on our existing community education programs.
“The iOS Development Labs will help create new opportunities in underrepresented backgrounds to develop new skills.”
Commented Alisha Johnson Wilder, director of the initiative at Apple.
As part of the Initiative, the firm provides hardware, scholarships, financial support, resources for educators and access to Apple’s team of experts.
They also invest to create educational and economic opportunities in under-resourced communities.
For example: the Autonomous University of Chiapas , with 21 thousand students, has one of the largest populations of indigenous students in Mexico.
While CETYS, University of Tijuana , with more than 8 thousand students systemwide, supports 8 out of 10 of them with some type of scholarship.
In addition, they collaborate closely on this project with the non-profit organization Enactus Mexico.
To help create a network of educators
that can connect and expand the academic and social impact of these laboratories .

With the opening of the two laboratories, there are now 12 learning centers across the country.

Verónica Rojas Mendizábal, director of the Center of Excellence in Innovation and Design (CEID) of CETYS, commented.
